I am so excited about this installment of On the Hunt. The day after I saw Mamma Mia I received this On the Hunt request from AphroChic reader Barbara Hyman:
I have just seen the movie Mamma Mia and am totally inspired to paint my house blue and white. I particularly fell in love with the soft furnishings and wondered if you can help me track down the following fabulous items:doona cover in Meryl Streep’s bedroom..it is white with red stitching-any and all of the amazing sheets hanging up early on in the film..I just love the wild patterned flowery sheets-the tiles in the kitchen..to die for.
Barbara, I was also inspired by the soft furnishings and flowing textiles in the movie (and of course I couldn’t stop singing Dancing Queen for a week!). Here are some finds to help you create your own Mamma Mia style.
I absolutely love the red and white cover from the bedroom scene. It caught my eye the moment I saw it on screen. While I couldn’t find the exact cover, I was able to spot two duvets that have the same homespun feel.
The Pottery Barn Lanai Quilt and Sham has a beautifully hand-quilted pattern that is reminiscent of the style of the quilt in the movie. In a range of colors, you are sure to find one that will fit within your blue and white theme.
Similar to the duvet in the movie is this beautifully embroidered Otomi Fabric from Jacaranda. Handmade by Mexican Otomi Indians, it definitely has a homey feeling to it. Colors can be specially ordered, so you can get it in the red and white fabric you were looking for.
Finally, to set off the space, you can’t forget that striped rug. The Pottery Barn Pieced Awning Stripe Mat is a good match.
Who could forget that wonderful scene where an array of Josef Frank fabrics hung from a clothing line, just blowing in the wind? One of these prints would look gorgeous in your own home, upholstered on a chair or bench like this Josef Wingback Chair at Anthropologie.
There were so many beautiful stone and ceramic tiles in the movie. They really helped to set the scene for a rustic getaway. These handmade cement tiles from Moroccan company Popham Design definitely have the same inspired feel.
Good luck in repainting and restyling your home in Mamma Mia fashion Barbara!
