I was so happy when AC Reader Paul Pincus, sent me a note and introduced me to the work of Brooklyn-based artist Mickalene Thomas. After visiting her website, I was struck by the body and diversity of Mickalene’s work. From acrylics, to photographs, to her own amazing installations, Mickalene’s work is elaborate, provocative, and captures the soulful side of her subjects and interiors.
I love how her compositions feature a funky blend of patterns and colors, bringing together a 1970’s aesthetic. Reminiscent of my parent’s generation, there is a part of me that craves for such an eclectic mix.
Who knew an installation could look so cool? This is art I would love to live in.
