AphroChic Exclusive: Tracy Reese in Country Living

I am absolutely in love with the work of fashion designer Tracy Reese.  I mean, we have all seen First Lady Michelle Obama rocking the beautiful dresses she designs (I love this one!).  So it was very exciting when I heard from Country Living Magazine, and they let me know about the beautiful feature they were doing on Reese’s country home in New York.

Reese, born and raised in Detroit, and now a Manhattanite, was looking for a little piece of heaven away from the city, and found it in a small rural town outside of New York.  The home reflects Tracy’s grounded sense of style – approachable design that is unabashedly feminine, full of color, elegant lines, and a little bit of a vintage touch.

As you will see in the article, Tracy enjoys shopping at some of the home decor shops that we all love – West Elm, Pottery Barn, and Urban Outfitters every now and then – and mixing furnishings from those stores with vintage pieces, and found objects (like the ladder in this bedroom that was taken off the street, cleaned off, and made new again).

A country girl myself (yes, the small town I’m from only had one grocery store, and plenty of cows and horses around), I love how Tracy has taken country style from kitschy to absolutely chic, blending modern and contemporary elements.  This sitting area has a beautiful blend of rustic furniture, and modern accessories like the Donna Wilson pillows on the chairs.

And in the master bedroom, dramatic black walls envelope unique pieces, like this 100-year-old chest from the Carousel Antique Center in Hudson, New York.

The master bedroom may be my absolute favorite space in Tracy’s home.  The bed covered in a toile upholstery, the cool credenza turned bedside table, and the ceramic blue lamp are all statement pieces that work together beautifully.
