I love this recent article in New York Magazine that provides a look inside the home of fashion stylist Scott Newkirk.
Four years ago Scott bought the 3,000 square space — a former firehouse — in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and transformed it into a beautiful, contemporary home.
Like every New Yorker, Scott got very creative with the layout. In the bedroom a curtain divides the bed from storage.
Scott is using his home as a living laboratory for his new furniture collection, Newkirk. The table in this living area is a peek into the kinds furnishings that will be presented.
Just off the kitchen there’s a fantastic spiral staircase original to the space. I love that Scott kept this intact. I don’t know if I’ve ever told you this, but my father-in-law is a draftsman who designs staircases just like this. I have a huge appreciation for the design process that goes into creating spiral stairs.
To make the loft feel cozy, Scott focused on painting the walls, and added luxurious floor-to-ceiling curtains. The effect makes the large rooms in this home feel nice and warm.
You can read more about Scott’s home, and all of the amazing elements in it over at New York Magazine. Enjoy!
