House Tour: Abigail Ahern

Abigail Ahern, The Selby

2010 was the first time I wrote about British designer Abigail Ahern.  Her London atelier features the most beautiful decorative accessories for the home, from sculptural doggy lighting to bookish wallpaper patterns.  A year after writing about her I had the opportunity to meet Ahern at Maison & Objet, and was excited to find that she was not only a cool designer, but a cool and authentic person as well.  Ahern has a genuinely unique sense of style that shines through in everything that she designs, including her beautiful London home shot by Todd Selby in 2011.

I like to think of Ahern’s style as “rock star vintage”.  The home is filled with modern designs, like the Genuine Fake Book Case wallpaper that frames a room with peacock blue side chairs that look like they are straight out of the 60s.

Every vignette in Ahern’s home has a little bit of an edge to it.  A traditional fireplace looks a little dark and daring in the cool gray shade that she uses throughout her interior.

The dark walls and furnishings become a great contrast to the many colorful pieces in Ahern’s home.  A blue painting in the home’s entrway is almost glowing against a rich, black wall.

In the bathroom, there is the ultimate statement of modern, vintage and edgy design as they come together in the space.  A modern white chandelier is a statement piece over a vintage clawfoot tub.  And the gray is present again, giving the bathroom a bit of a moody vibe.  The entire home is a beautifully put together by this rockstar designer.
