Baltimore-based interior designer, Saudah Saleem took on quite the design task – designing a single bedroom for two little girls in two very different stages. For this pair of roommates – her daughters – ages 13 and 7, Saleem worked to create a bedroom that each girl would enjoy. The end result is the perfect tween room, filled with bold and colorful elements and fashion-inspired prints that both girls absolutely love.
This bedroom is anything but shy, making an entrance with a vibrant color palette that mixes hot pink, purple and citron green hues.
To help both of her daughters feel like the room was theirs, Saleem created a gallery wall reflecting the girls’ interests and their cultural heritage.
“I used African-American silhouettes near the beds, vintage fashion and travel prints, inspirational quotes and lots of bright colors and pattern to incorporate a sense of who we are as a family as well as who they are as individuals. The selections remind the girls of where we come from and the endless possibilities that exist with regard to where they can go in life if they work hard and pursue their passions,” Saleem explains.
Throughout the room, vintage pieces have been beautifully incorporated among modern furnishings. Here a vintage wooden desk adds a touch of warmth nestled in between contemporary white dressers and an ultra-modern desk chair.
Classic feminine touches can be found throughout the space. This lovely chandelier is an element that you just know the girls will love in their room even as they get older.
The rich color palette can be found throughout the accessories in the room. Saleem even wrapped the girls’ books in colorful paper reflecting the hues found in this vibrant bedroom.
