Jamie Herzlinger of JAMIESHOP.COM

Jamie Herzlinger

What a difference a couple of years makes.  Two years ago I interviewed the lovely Jamie Herzlinger about her work as an interior designer.  It was one of my favorite Style Talk interviews.  Jamie has incredible style that’s all about luxury.  Today, I would like to introduce Jamie to you again.  She joins as a new sponsor of the AphroChic blog, and the founder of JAMIESHOP.COM, a luxury interior design buying service.  I sat down with Jamie to ask her about her new shop, and how you can use her buying service to bring luxurious designs into your own interior.

JAMIESHOP.COM

What inspired you to launch JAMIESHOP.COM?
One week, we had at least ten calls from clients to my firm asking if we could simply just purchase items on their behalf from manufacturers that are exclusive to the trade only. I started to think about how the Internet could bring luxury furnishings, accessories, wallpaper and fabrics to the end users, while they shop in the comfort of their own home… Welcome JAMIESHOP.COM

JAMIESHOP.COM

How does the service work?
JAMIESHOP.COM is super easy! Simply go on our website and sign up! You then will have access to over 400 manufacturers, and when you find something you like, or you have product information from a magazine, click on “request a quote” and fill out the form and click submit. Within 48 business hours we will contact you with a quote for your item.

JAMIESHOP.COM

What is the value of buying items through an interior design service like yours rather than sourcing them through a store?
That’s simple. JAMIESHOP.COM gives you the ability to purchase from any “to the trade only” manufacturers, which you cannot purchase from on your own, and at discounts up to 50% off retail! Unlike other online services, JAMIESHOP.COM will ensure your order works within your space by providing a scaled drawing. Once you place an order for a rug or sofa, for example, we will send you a furniture floor plan showing how they fit in your space and work spatially with your existing furnishings. Upon ordering light fixtures, we will send you an elevation showing where they should be located on your wall or how low they should hang from your ceiling. I help the client approve finish samples on furniture they selected, I will answer any questions regarding their purchases, and I am there every step of the way.

JAMIESHOP.COM

What brands can we find on JAMIESHOP.COM?
I chose to only represent my favorite manufacturers that I have established great working relationships with, such as, Hickory Chair Company, Bolier and Company, Baker, Lee Jofa, McGuire and hundreds more!

JAMIESHOP.COM

After purchasing through JAMIESHOP.COM, can you help clients design their spaces too?
I often receive phone calls from people interested in decorating just one or two rooms. Unfortunately, I did not work with such a small scale. I always felt bad that I couldn’t be more of a service to them. I have been brainstorming for some time now, trying to figure out how to cater to the one or two room client. And I am happy to announce we just recently launched JH ONLINE. JH ONLINE offers you a variety of different ways we may work together to make your project a successful endeavor. JH ONLINE answers the questions of what to do with all the inspirational photos that you have collected from all your favorite shelter magazines. Whether it is a certain piece that you find inspiring, or an entire project, JH ONLINE will give us the ability to work together to sort through your inspirations and develop a plan and an end game.

I am thrilled to let you know that as a blog sponsor, Jamie is offering AphroChic readers in the continental US up to $500 off shipping through JAMIESHOP.COM!!!  It’s an amazing deal.  Just use promo code: Aphrochic2012.  Enjoy!

AphroChic Joins Dove’s Self-Esteem Weekend

I am thrilled to let you know about a new campaign that I’m a part of, one that’s dear to my heart – the 3rd Annual Dove Self-Esteem Weekend.  This weekend, Dove is asking every mom, dad, grandmom, pop-pop, auntie, uncle, teacher and mentor to talk with the young girls in their lives about beauty, confidence, and building healthy self-esteem, and I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this movement.

I know statistics can be boring, but did you know that 60% of girls stop doing an activity that they love because they feel bad about the way they look?  That means a little girl might stop doing ballet, dance, swimming, basketball, singing – activities that can help instill confidence in her and a sense of value – all because she’s worried about how she looks.

At AphroChic one of our primary focuses has been working to provide a positive image of Black women.  I want every African-American woman and girl who views our catalog, product line, and this blog to see herself in what is presented here.  It’s in seeing positive images of real women that girls can grow up feeling confident and focused on their goals.

I would like to invite all of you to take a little time this weekend to talk to a young girl.  Be a role model, and encourage her to follow what she’s passionate about.  You may not have all the answers and that’s ok.  Dove has provided the Let’s Talk Toolkit that you can easily download to help you get the conversation started and keep it going.

Let’s talk, and help all little girls lead healthy and confident lives.  Join Dove’s Self-Esteem Weekend October 5th – 7th on TwitterFacebook, and in your local community.

At the Project Runway 10th Anniversary party at Lord & Taylor our group of designers and bloggers walked the red carpet.  I have to admit, it was a very cool moment!

The designers from Project Runway Season 10 were at the party.  They stayed for a bit, but had to run off to get ready for the Runway show on Friday.

Nathan Paul and Bryan Mason

Bryan and I had a chance to talk to Nathan Paul of Season 10.  He is up to some fantastic work, including his recent efforts to craft new legislation to establish new sizing requirements for women’s clothing.

Jeanine Hays and Korto Momolu

I was extremely excited to meet designer Korto Momolu.  She is one of my favorite Project Runway stars!

AphroChic Fashionable Floral Wallpaper Revealed!

Our new wallpaper pattern was revealed on Thursday.  We worked in collaboration with designer Emily Henderson to develop some beautiful colorways, updating an archival AphroChic print created by Samantha Hahn.  And yes, I know some of you are already wondering, this paper will be for sale later this year!

Models at the Project Runway Show

On Friday morning we all went to the Project Runway finale fashion show.  It was pretty amazing to see the work of the designers up close and personal, and to be in the same room as Heidi, Tim, Michael, and Nina.  Eight designers presented so the audience didn’t know who the final three were.

Michael Kors and Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum was absolutely radiant in beautiful golden gown.  Here she is seated next to the fabulous Michael Kors.

Nina Garcia

Nina Garcia was seated next to the surprise guest judge, Jennifer Hudson!

Jennifer Hudson at Project Runway Show

I have to admit I geeked out when Jennifer came out.  She is gorgeous, graceful, and I love her work as both an actress and singer.

Debra Messing at Project Runway Show

Debra Messing was also in the crowd.  I just love her in Smash!

Designers and Bloggers at the Project Runway Show

I had such a wonderful time getting to know the other amazing designers and bloggers who participated in the HP Designer Matchup Challenge.  What a fabulous week!

You can see more images from my week on the AphroChic Facebook page and on the AphroChic Instagram page.  Enjoy!

For a recap of this challenge, in partnership with Design Milk, Project Runway sponsor HP is presenting the HP Designer Matchup Challenge. Inspired by the 10th season of Project Runway, the challenge brought together five bloggers and the designers of their choice to collaborate on developing a special product. The most exciting part, we needed your help to create a product that was revealed during New York Fashion Week. This post is sponsored by HP. For my participation I have received an HP Touchsmart, and was sent to New York for fashion week events and the season finale of Project Runway.

HP Designer Matchup Challenge: Week 3!

AphroChic Floral Pattern_Designed by Samantha Hahn_Project Runway Inspired Wallpaper Pattern
The brand new Fashionable Floral wallpaper pattern!

Today is a very exciting day!  It’s the third week of the HP Designer Matchup Challenge sponsored by HP and Design Milk to celebrate the 10th season of Project Runway, and I am so happy to reveal to you the pattern that will be presented next week at New York Fashion Week!!!

Ven Budhu Dress 1_Project Runway
A floral-inspired design by Project Runway contestant Ven Budhu was inspiration for the design’s color palette.

With your help we were able to create a beautiful Fashionable Floral wallpaper design that is fresh and on-trend.  Inspired by the work of Ven Budhu and Kooan Kosuke you were asked to vote on your favorite pattern – Fashionable Florals, Pattern Gone Wild, and Crazy Eighties.  The floral design got your vote!

citron and teal
Stay tuned to see how we incorporate this palette into the design.

You were also asked to vote on your favorite color palette, and citron and teal was the winner.  With the help of HGTV personality and interior designer Emily Henderson, Emily and I were able to update an archival pattern created by Samantha Hahn for AphroChic with a modern color palette that Emily felt would be perfect for the types of gorgeous rooms that she designs (the new palette will be revealed next week).

AphroChic Floral Pattern_designed by Samantha Hahn
Samantha Hahn’s original design that we turned into a wallpaper pattern using the HP Touchsmart PC.

The pattern was turned into a wallpaper print using the HP Touchsmart PC and Adobe Photoshop CS6.  The Touchsmart technology helped us take a single image, and turn it into a beautiful repeat that will make this pattern the perfect statement piece for any wall.

HP Design Matchup Challenge Logo

Emily and I are having fun this week picking out the substrate for the wallpaper.  We’ve been looking at some innovative papers, including some eco-friendly wallpapers that the design can be printed on.  I can’t wait for you to see the final colorway and design of this wallpaper pattern next week.  The image above is just a small taste of what’s to come!

HP Designer Matchup Challenge: The Winning Design!

Emily Henderson_HP Designer Matchup Challenge

I’m thrilled to bring you the second week of the HP Designer Matchup Challenge, and to announce the winning design – Fashionable Florals!  Forty-eight percent of you voted for the modern floral design presented in a gorgeous dress by Ven Budhu of Project Runway.  Interior designer Emily Henderson of Secrets From A Stylist and I are thrilled about the winning design, and this week we’ve been working on developing a color palette for our wallpaper collaboration.  We’ve been having fun with the HP Touchsmart PC (you can see Emily using hers above), and playing with Adobe Photoshop CS6 to work on color palette designs for the wallpaper project.

As we are both visual people, we decided to start with some moodboards to finalize the color scheme.  Emily selected a few of her favorite floral patterns with bright and bold shades to serve as inspiration.  Now we need YOUR input to decide on the final palette. Here are the colorful choices:

Hot Pink and Emerald Green (Check out Emily’s post on how beautifully these shades work together.)

Tangerine and Poppy

Citron and Teal

The winning palette will be used in our wallpaper design.  And remember, the design will be presented to celebrate the 10th Season of Project Runway during New York Fashion Week!

What happens when HP, AphroChic, Emily Henderson and YOU team up?  Well, you can bet it will be something incredible!  In partnership with Design Milk, Project Runway sponsor HP is presenting the HP Designer Matchup Challenge.  Inspired by the 10th season of Project Runway, the challenge will bring together five bloggers and the designers of their choice to collaborate on developing a special product.  The most exciting part, we will need your help to create a product that will be revealed during New York Fashion Week!!!!  Yup, I told you it would be incredible.

Emily Henderson headshot copy

I am lucky enough to be working on this challenge with my favorite designer, Emily Henderson of HGTV Design Star fame!  I’m sure you have all seen Emily’s work on her show, Secrets From A Stylist.  An exceptional interior designer, Emily has a talent for using color, pattern, and her expert styling abilities to create fashionable, modern spaces.  Over the next few weeks the two of us will be working together to develop an original wallpaper design, perfect for the types of interiors that Emily is famous for.  And in September we will come together to unveil our design and attend the Project Runway finale runway show!!!  I am already working on my wardrobe for that event.

So are you ready to get started?  Emily and I will be sketching our wallpaper pattern using the HP TouchSmart PC loaded with Adobe PhotoShop CS6 (yes, the same one they use on Project Runway!  So exciting!), and we need your help.  We’ve narrowed down our ideas, but the final decision is up to you:

Crazy Eighties
Kooan Kosuke Outfit 1_Project Runway
Emily is inspired by the saturated hues and neon shades of Kooan Kosuke’s for a wallpaper design that pops!

Pattern Gone Wild
Kooan Kosuke Outfit 2_Project Runway
Another piece by Kooan, Emily is a fan of his mix of bold geometric shapes.  A pattern like this could be the perfect basis for a design.

Fashionable Florals
Ven Budhu Dress 2_Project Runway
I love the work of Ven Budhu, and his floral-inspired pieces.  It would be fun to develop a wallpaper pattern with an updated version of classic blooms.

Which Project Runway design should we use to inspire our wallpaper?
