Join us as we present two interior design lounges featuring our own special blend of modern design and cultural style. Designed to express a warm, authentic Brooklyn vibe, the spaces will feature vintage and handmade furnishings from Patina Rentals, colorful walls featuring eco-friendly ColorHouse paint and a curated selection of artwork from local SaatchiArt.com artists. Together with live graffiti art, designer talks and music from DJ King Leo, the AphroChic REMIX Lounges are sure to keep the cultural beat going all weekend long.
The event takes place May 8th through the 10th at the Brooklyn Expo Center. For the full schedule and tickets visit our Facebook page.
Chicago is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, and we were thrilled to hold a REMIX: Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul book party at the Room & Board in Chicago last month. Bringing together our aesthetic of modern design and cultural style, we remixed the new accessories showroom of the store, creating beautiful rooms filled with color, pattern, handmade global pieces and art. The evening was made even more fun with beats by DJ NIKKI and soulful bites from Season 52 and Pure Kitchen. Check out our fabulous fête.
For the event, we styled a bedroom vignette inspired by our African heritage, featuring a chevron blanket and kuba pillows from Room & Board, and our silhouette pillow against an artsy backdrop. On the gallery wall behind the bed we curated a collection of jazz imagery, handmade Makenge baskets and a a gorgeous piece, Draw The Line, by our friend Leigh Viner, was placed in a gold frame.
In the living room vignette, a collection of African baskets were featured among several more Leigh Viner illustrations.
Each one of our book parties with Room & Board has featured a local small business element, and we were very excited to feature a collection of antique Turkish kilim pillows from Chicago vintage boutique, Humboldt House.
So many members of the Chicago design community came out, including Janel Laban, Executive Editor at Apartment Therapy, and her husband Allard.
The evening ended with a design discussion about REMIX and a book signing.
Thank you so much to Room & Board Chicago and the team at Zapwater for coordinating an incredible event!
We just finished up our first book tour event this summer in Las Vegas during Design Camp, and are now in Chicago. We hope you’ll join us tonight for a fun book party at Room & Board in downtown Chicago. There will be a DJ, modern soul food, and we’ll be remixing the store and signing your copies of REMIX all night. And if you’re in the Bay Area, we also hope you’ll join us on August 14th at Room & Board in San Francisco. It’s going to be two great nights of REMIX!
AphroChic has teamed up with Apartment Therapy to bring you a unique series of house tours! Inspired by our book, Remix: Decorating With Culture, Objects and Soul, every month we’re taking you into homes from around the globe that have an authentic blend of modern and cultural style.
Our first house tour went live yesterday, and you don’t want to miss it. It’s about the founders of one of our favorite blogs, Coffeeklatch. Magali Elali and Bart Kiggen, who live in Belgium, feature creatives and their amazing interiors on their blog, and we were excited to feature their home on AT. Read all about their soulful Belgium abode, how they blend culture in their space, and how they make their white walls come to life with lots of greenery. Enjoy!
Remix House Tours is a special collaboration between AphroChic and Apartment Therapy. Read the full house tour with Magali and Bart on Apartment Therapy.
