Inside Our Jonathan Adler Book Party

On November 21st we had a festive book party event at the Jonathan Adler in Old City Philadelphia. The store is so bright and fun, and our books fit in perfectly with the happy and colorful decor. Throughout the night we met with some of our favorite people in the Philadelphia design community, and family and friends who came out to support REMIX.

Jonathan Adler pieces are some of our faves, and were featured throughout REMIX. We loved this bright pink Juju hat that was put up the night of the party.

It was truly a friends and family event. Here is my mom holding up her copy of REMIX.

Yummy bites were served throughout the evening on pretty Jonathan Adler trays.

The store was packed with family and friends.

Here we are with Naomi Stein of Design Manifest and Molly Andrews of Chairloom.

Our friend Amber Skymer was in the house. She is the owner of ReMod Gallery, one of our favorite vintage stores. You can find information about ReMod in the resource section of REMIX.

A family photo with my mother and grandmother, and Bryan’s sister, mother and father.

And we couldn’t end the night without taking a picture with the Jonathan Adler Philly family. A great crew that threw a fabulous event!

Inside Our Room & Board New York Book Party

On November 14, 2013 we had an amazing book party at the Room & Board in SoHo.  I have to say party, because the atmosphere at Room & Board was electric that night.  With over 200 guests, beats from DJ Kwame kept the party going, and amazing soul food by Poppy’s in Brooklyn kept everyone in high spirits.  Copies of REMIX were flying out the door, and we had the most fun ever remixing Room & Board with pieces from their new accessories line, AphroChic textiles, african wax prints from Origins Style x Nasozi, a juju hat from L’aviva Home, and art by Andre Woolery.

Andre Woolery’s painting of Erykah Badu was a show-stopper that night.  It showed just how one piece of art can bring soul, color and pattern into a room.

Bryan and I had so much fun meeting guests and signing books.  Costume Designer, Derica Cole Washington came ready to celebrate REMIX, wearing a coat in the same mimosa shade as our cover.

We remixed a Room & Board dining room vignette with their new Pigeon Toe Collection and colorful AphroChic placemats.  Food was a part of the evening, with a yummy soul food menu that included cornbread and caramel desserts.

L’aviva Home provided us with a stunning white juju hat for the evening.  It was a wonderful way to add some African style to the bedroom.  We also layered in fashion illustrations to go along with our Brooklyn Life pillows.

The guest list was extraordinary.  Design Stars Danielle Colding and Brooks Atwood were in the house and enjoying the vignettes.

Fashion designer, and the designer of my dress that evening, Reuben Reuel, made an appearance.

We were excited to have Keija Minor, Editor in Chief of Brides Magazine, attend.

And so many of our homeowners were in attendance, including Kalyn Chandler of Effie’s Paper and her husband Todd.

A Look At The Room & Board DC Book Party

On November 7th we held our book launch at the Room & Board in Washington DC.  The night was filled with soulful music, stylish vignettes remixed by AphroChic, soul food by celebrity chef, Chef Rock Harper, and a host of great guests.

We remixed three vignettes on the fourth floor of the showroom.  It was so much fun integrating AphroChic style with the modern furnishings at Room & Board.  We were excited to feature new pieces from the store’s Fall accessories collection along with our colorful textiles.  It was a perfect combination!

Bryan and I gave a talk during the event, sharing the inspiration behind REMIX: Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul.

Chef Rock Harper served up a delicious menu.  These sausage sandwiches were our favorite.

DJ Civil had us rocking to soulful grooves all night long.  And yes, there was some dancing on the dance floor.

We featured the paper cuts of local artist Janelle Washington in Room & Board’s new gold frames.  I want these for our home now.

Bryan and I had so much fun meeting everyone who attended while signing books.

It was truly one of the most amazing nights.  You can see more images from the party over at Revamp.

AphroChic Panel & Book Signing At High Point Market

Our first book tour event at High Point Market was an amazing experience!  We hosted a wonderful panel of designers and editors for a discussion, From All Corners: Exploring Diversity in Design in the 21st Century.

Bryan moderated the conversation with interior designers Danielle Colding and Sandra Espinet, stylist Angela Belt, HuffPost Home Lifestyle Editor, Jessica Cumberbatch-Anderson, and me.

The conversation touched on several topics including the representation of women of color in design; tips for interior designers working with clients who want a global feel; and concepts growing out of REMIX: Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul, our new book.

Stylist, Angela Belt discussed how she mastered a diverse mix of influences in the homes featured in REMIX.

We were honored to have our friend Sandra Espinet, the author of The Well-Traveled Home on our panel.

Danielle Colding wrote the foreword for REMIX, and discussed creating spaces with cultural style for clients.

Bryan and I had so much fun signing books for the first time, and we can’t wait to do it again next week at our official launch event in Washington DC.

REMIX: Decorating with Culture, Objects and Soul, is available for pre-order for just a few more days at AmazonBarnes & Noble, the iBookstore and IndieBound, and will be available in stores everywhere on November 5th.
